ニューヨークを拠点に活動するバンドHazmat Modineの結成25周年記念ライブ。
そのバックグラウンドにはジプシー・ジャズ、ブルース、ソウル、カントリー、ロックと年代もジャンルも幅広く取り込んでいるものの、伝統楽器やテイストにはまとまりがあって、気だるさとメリハリのバランスが絶妙だ。トランペット、サックス、トロンボーン、ギター、チューバ、ハーモニカ、バンジョー（撥弦楽器）、バイオリン、そして打楽器という10人の大所帯が奏でる舞台は圧巻。
このバンドとの出会いは、ニューヨークの音楽カンファレンス「Wavelengths Conference」だ。制限時間内に参加ミュージシャンたちが各々の宣伝をするステージで、ボーカルのWade Schumanのプレゼンテーションが一際目立っていて声を掛けた。バンドの中心核でもある彼は、情熱的に歌い上げながらも数多くのユニークな楽器を持ち替え、ときにはトークで笑わせたりオーティエンスをいじったりもするマルチプレイヤー。
イギリスやオーストリア、ベルリンなどのフェスティバルへの出演や、ブラジル、メキシコ、ロシア、インドなどのツアーなど世界各国での活動歴をもつHazmat Modine。唯一無二の演奏スタイルと、古くからのバンド仲間同士や年齢層幅広い”家族”のようなメンバー構成が、聴く人の心をほっこりとさせる。
